“Money couldn’t buy this – helping out here, with my friends, is wonderful, I love it” - East Durham Volunteer
Volunteering is a chance to make a difference right where you live, to make a friends and to learn new skills. From gardening and making tea, to office work and supporting people in crisis or in need of a friendly ear, there’s something that everybody can do. The East Durham Trust Volunteer Centre supports you every step of the way to finding a volunteering role that suits you. We work with our community partners, to make sure that we can provide a wide variety of volunteering opportunities that will really make a difference for the causes that matter to you.
Did you know?
There’s a volunteering opportunity out there for everyone – whatever your age or ability!
Although volunteers aren’t paid, you will be able to claim back expenses such as bus fares.
If you claim benefits, you can still volunteer – we can check and make sure you stay within the rules.
Yes, some roles require special checks, but actually, it’s not as common as you might think. DBS checks are only needed for certain roles (so working in certain situations with certain people), and the check is just about keeping people safe. (So that thing that may have happened when you were a teenager may not be a problem – but we can have a chat about it if you’re worried.)
Volunteering doesn’t need to be a big commitment – you can help out in a way that fits in with you.
We provide proper support, induction and training, and it’s easy enough to take a break if you want
