Are you a whizz in the kitchen? We might have the perfect role for you! Become a People’s Takeaway Catering Assistant and support the preparation of food for distribution to residents in financial hardship. 
​The People’s Takeaway service is an innovative project that provides hundreds of hot meals to East Durham Residents who are in financial crisis. The hot meals are delivered to the resident’s door like a takeaway.  The project provides takeaways on a regular basis to households across East Durham, and since its launch has delivered thousands of meals.
​
We are looking to recruit more volunteers to maintain this volunteer led project, we would love you to join the team. 

As a Catering Assistant, the role involves a number of tasks including:
​

  • Preparing hot and cold food
  • Maintaining cleanliness of kitchen and equipment
  • Monitoring and recording temperatures of equipment
  • Ensuring meals are prepared and ready for collection in line with anticipated delivery times
  • Support the wider team where needed to ensure delivery of high-quality food to clients
  • Participate in an ongoing programme development, reviews and training
  • Ensure Health and Safety rules are always adhered to
  • Respecting confidential information at all times 

Desirable Criteria:
​

  • Food preparation experience or be willing to learn
  • Enthusiasm and the ability to work independently and in a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Friendly, reliable, non-judgemental and non-discriminating
  • Interest in working in the community 

Working as a Catering Assistant you will gain:

  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Experience working in a busy kitchen environment
  • The opportunity to make a positive difference to the people that need our help
  • Experience in providing a service that is both rewarding and satisfying
  • Out of pocket expenses reimbursed
