After delays caused by the global pandemic the extension to East Durham Trust's base at Community House was completed in August 2020. A bespoke space designed for Arts and Cultural activity the Arts Cafe @ Community House will provide a place for performances, sessions and activity. Unfortunately due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions the Arts Cafe isn't able to invite lots of local people in as we'd hoped but there are lots of plans for the future!
The Arts Cafe @ Community House was made possible thanks to funding from the Clothworkers Foundation, East Durham Area Action Partnership, various local Councillors and Durham County Council as well as a crowdfunding campaign where you helped make it happen. WHAT WE DO
We help the communities of the former district of Easington which is made up 20 distinct areas, most of which are former Pit villages that continue to be hugely affected by deprivation following the closure of the Pits. We run a wide range of projects to help the community fight disadvantage including food parcels, telephone befriending for the socially isolated, helping people in the downward spiral of debt, supporting people to get the benefits they deserve, providing holiday activities with food, getting the disengaged engaged with the arts and more.
