Support local communities and help individuals get access to information, advice and guidance on their financial situation.
​As a volunteer Debt Advisor you will be able to guide and empower clients, as well as negotiate with creditors on their behalf. You will evaluate the best options and strategies that apply to the client’s debt problem, looking for ways to maximise income while providing budgeting advice. 

Desirable Criteria…
​

  • Be committed and reliable to ensure you attend all appointments agreed to
  • Good communication skills
  • Commitment to complete required training
  • Be able to commit to at least a minimum of four hours per week
  • A good listener, compassionate and empathetic
  • Must be friendly, reliable, non-judgemental and non-discriminating
  • Basic IT knowledge
  • Numeracy and literacy skills
  • Interest in working in the local community
  • Experience of supporting vulnerable individuals/individuals with disabilities

  • Level 1,2 and 3 Debt Advice training under Community Money Advice
  • Reimbursed all out-of-pocket expenses
  • £0.45 per mile
  • Your own caseload of clients
  • Satisfaction supporting vulnerable victims.

East Durham Trust is a flagship VCSE organisation for the 20 villages and 2 towns on the East Durham Coast. We are the 'go to' organisation in our community delivering a range of projects and services from crisis support  to art engagement.

We work directly with community members and partners to facilitate prevention, intervention and crisis support services delivered in our communities, for our communities and by our communities.

We empower people to take ownership of their own needs and work to lift up those most in need in East Durham. We help build and maintain meaningful relationships within our community ensuring those on the margins are helped to be in reach of a spectrum vital services.
