"Thank you" for FEED donations

3/7/2019

Picture
Thanks to the many donations we received from individuals and organisations throughout the region in the last month, we have been able to provide food parcels to a large number of struggling families and individuals in East Durham through our FEED project. In June alone, we sent out 339 food parcels which fed 235 adults and 156 children from all walks of life during a time of personal financial crisis.

Here is an example of one of the individuals your generosity and kindness has helped recently:

D is struggling financially. She is pregnant and living with her partner’s parents. All of her finances are being used for baby items.

FEED stocks are desperately low again

3/7/2019

Sadly, our FEED stocks are desperately low again, as we continue to experience increasing demand on a daily basis. In particular, as today's photos of our bare shelves can testify, we are almost completely out of such staple items as tinned meat, tinned fish, tinned vegetables, tinned potatoes, tinned fruit, etc.; as well as packets of dried pasta, noodles and rice. Basically, we urgently need donations of all staple non-perishable food items, as well as general toiletries, baby items, etc.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Youth Panel interview and select the artists to deliver East Durham Creates final major commission

3/7/2019

This weekend our East Durham Creates Youth Panel helped us to interview artists for our next major project. The artists delivered a wide range of workshops for the Youth Panel including dancing, creating an original song, stilt walking and creating rave music and miner's banner making. The Youth Panel then sat in and helped us to interview the artists and make our final decision! We are grateful to the young people involved and seeing  #CulturalDemocracy happen here in East Durham!

Opportunities for Volunteer Catering Assistants and Volunteer Drivers for our People's Takeaway

21/6/2019

Picture
Picture
We are looking for volunteer catering assistants and volunteer drivers for our People's Takeaway project (Monday-Friday).

We are coming up to the school summer holiday period and will be running a number of free Family Activities with free food at various venues throughout East Durham. The free food will be provided through the People's Takeaway project, so we are particularly needing extra volunteers throughout this period.

Even if you can only spare a few hours it would help us enormously and you would be supporting many vulnerable people in need throughout your local community.

Could you spare a few hours throughout the week over the summer? If so, please contact Colin at East Durham Trust on 0191 5693511 or inbox your contact details and we will call you.

Further information about the opportunities can be found HERE.

Resettled Families from Iraq and Syria at East Durham Trust

20/6/2019

Over the past few weeks we have been working with our resettled families from Iraq and Syria holding workshops to introduce them to different types of art.

They have experienced playing steel drums - much to the East Durham Trust's office's enjoyment, made headpieces, origami and did willow weaving today.

We hope to continue working with our Resettled Families and in the process make them feel welcome and a part of our local community.
