Mondays 24th June, 1st July, 8th July, 15th July. 10am - 12pm Spectrum Cultural Hub, Seaham SR7 7PR Creative Age is a dementia-friendly creative programme offering people living with dementia, their families and carers, and those with long term health conditions & memory problems the opportunity to take part in lively and supportive creative session led by artists. If you have early diagnosis join us for fun, relaxed sessions where you can try ceramics along with other art forms and meet new people. Come independently or bring a friend, family member or carer. Artist Popple's Tales has worked with local people from Wheatley Hill to bring to life characters that will form a community book! Here are some of the clay versions of the characters made by people from Greenhills Centre. Don't they look great!? We can't wait to read the community book and are also looking forward to the Book Launch Party at the Greenhills Centre, Wheatley Hill on 29th August 2pm-3:30pm. Our East Durham Creates Youth Panel is meeting tonight to think of questions to ask our artists during the interview panel for our next major commission.
Easington Colliery Club is the scene of a great send off for a great friend of East Durham Trust and the local community. RIP Myrtle MacPherson.
We had our amazing little team of young people who from our East Durham Creates Youth Panel at East Durham Trust tonight. They helped us to shortlist the artists (who applied for our next major commission) who will be taken through to the interview stage.
They were incredible this evening - giving insightful and thoughtful responses to the artist’s proposals. Thanks to our Youth Panel for coming tonight and helping us make a decision. See you next week to talk about the interview stage. We are looking forward to working in partnership with ASDA and FareShare North East who are reducing unnecessary food waste by donating to various local charities and community groups including East Durham Trust.

Thank you to Roseby Road Wellbeing Centre in Horden for setting up a FEED donation box in their front reception office. Anyone who wishes to donate to our FEED Project now has the option of donating here whilst visiting or attending the Centre or if it is an easier location for them to get to.

We are delighted to take this opportunity during NCVO Volunteers Week Impact and Wellbeing-themed day to highlight and celebrate those volunteers at East Durham Trust who have had a positive impact on the mental and physical wellbeing of others in their community...
"Thank you" to the volunteers who have been recruited and trained in mental health first aid to provide a telephone befriending service through our Chit Chat Project. They have had a positive impact on the mental wellbeing of vulnerable and isolated individuals throughout their community... "Thank you" to the volunteers who were recruited as Run Leaders for our Run East Durham Project. The Run Leaders have had a positive impact on the lives of East Durham residents by supporting and encouraging them to become more physically active. The project engaged over 500 local people and increased levels of Physical Activity with five Fun Runs staged in former pit villages and a larger scale 5-kilometre event in Castle Eden Dene. "Thank you" to the volunteers who were recruited and trained as Walk Leaders for our Walk Together Project. Their volunteering efforts have helped to promote physical activity and tackle social isolation amongst over 50's within their community. 'A Community Tale' is "a book created for Wheatley Hill, by Wheatley Hill!" and we are looking forward to following the further progress of the project and to seeing the finished article at the Book Launch Party on 29th August 2pm-3:30pm. Despite a recent call-out for FEED donations, with an amazing response from many generous donators, demand for food parcels has been intense this week resulting in a shortage of, and urgent need for, tinned meat, vegetables and potatoes in particular. Any help is appreciated.
Further information on our FEED Project is available HERE. On Power of Youth Day during NCVO Volunteers Week, we are delighted to announce our latest County Durham Community Foundation supported project 'Console to 5K'.
We will be training a new group of young volunteers to become 'Run Leaders' who will then support their peers into becoming more physically active. Further details coming soon. On Power of Youth Day for NCVO Volunteers Week, we would like to celebrate and thank the youth volunteers from our local NCS (National Citizens Service) who have selflessly given of their time and energy to support our FEED and People's Takeaway Projects through such activities fundraising, crowdfunding campaigns, food drives, collecting tin cans, etc.
As a direct result, they have gone on to become more active as volunteers within their communities and are more likely to continue to do so in the future. Well done all! Today NCVO Volunteers Week is focussed on The Power of Youth, so we are delighted to be able to celebrate one of our East Durham Creates Creative Champions Chloe, who first of all went from being a participant in our East Durham Creates 'No More Nowt Happens' and 'Go & See' Projects to becoming a volunteer in the arts by performing at our East Durham Creates 'If These Walls Could Talk' Project.
She now volunteers with our East Durham Creates Cultural Hubs Project and Youth Panel. With the confidence she has gained, Chloe is now organising her own spoken word event for our Cultural Hubs Project, and in doing so she has contacted a number of acclaimed spoken word artists and stand-up poets for their involvement, including Kate Fox.
