A huge thank you to Run Peterlee - Running Club for their extremely generous donation of food and £250 to the Trusts FEED project.
A huge well done to one of our lovely volunteers, Laura Robinson, who joined us initially on one of our ESF funded courses. She has progressed massively since first coming to us, both in skills and confidence and we look forward to seeing what the future holds.

The residents of Horden will wake up on Tuesday 14th May to find Sunderland Road filled with a series of unique art installations. Since September 2018 artists Sally Southern and Nicola Lynch have been working across East Durham primarily with people aged 55+ to capture the magic of everyday life. The project, titled “If These Walls Could Talk” is part of the East Durham Creates initiative, which is funded by Arts Council England as part of their Creative People and Places programme. If These Walls Could Talk has already engaged local people in a broad range of settings including care homes and community centres and has involved groups ranging from Tai Chi to Rag Rugging. The final work will be displayed in an unusual and surprising setting along an art trail. It will feature a mixture of text, audio and imagery inspired by the stories collected from across the former mining community and include original pieces of furniture and crafts created by those involved. The trail starts at Horden Labour Club and will be on display all day (from 8am-10pm) so drop ins are welcome throughout. The event includes arts activities taking place at the Ark, bingo at the Labour Club, free refreshments and entertainment as well as free accessible transport for those unable to walk the route themselves. Volunteers will be on hand to provide information and maps for those wanting to walk the trail. Malcolm Falow, CEO of East Durham Trust who manage the East Durham Creates project said; “This is an amazing experience for our Community as a whole, as well as giving local people a unique opportunity to experience high quality art this is a great way of putting Horden on the map for all the right reasons.” Congratulations to all those children who have shown strength and compassion way beyond their years and have been hailed at a special awards event filled with inspirational stories, including Alfie Dixon who set up a homework club to help his friends and used left over funding to support our FEED project.

We've got a survey and we'd love for you to fill it out to help support more projects like this in the future (it'll only take a few minutes!).
You can fill in the survey on 'Survey Monkey' here. A huge "Thank You" to Saint Cuthbert's RC Primary School, Seaham for their generous donation of non-perishable items towards our FEED project today. We are extremely grateful to receive such a varied and large number of items which will go a long way to helping support the ever-growing number of families and individuals in extreme need of food parcels throughout East Durham.
Our foodbank stocks are now severely depleted due to increasing demand and without urgently-required immediate donations we are going to struggle to meet further demands. We are currently providing food parcels to well over 100 people every week, which means our provision has more or less doubled since last year.
We are in particular desperate need of tinned meat, tinned fish and tinned vegetables; pasta sauces, tinned tomatoes and passata; packets of rice; as well as most other general basic food items. Please show your support in any way you can and remember that it is basic items that we desperately need. Everything we receive will be greatly accepted and appreciated and will be vital in helping us provide emergency food parcels to many struggling families and individuals throughout the whole of East Durham. The contribution Area Action Partnerships make to communities across County Durham has been recognised at a special event marking their tenth anniversary. Since 2009, Durham County Council’s 14 Area Action Partnerships (AAP) have delivered more than 6,000 community projects, engaged with more than 30,000 people and have helped secured funding in excess of £100million. For the event, each AAP had dominated a project they felt was "without equal" over the past ten years and awards were given out to representatives from the initiatives. The winning project for East Durham AAP was 'Welfare Champions' - a project delivered by volunteers under the guidance of East Durham Trust to support people experiencing financial hardship.
