Our Yes You Can adult learning art group today were introduced to our East Durham Creates project to find out how they can get involved in more arty things which happen in our local community. We are pleased to see such enthusiasm from the group to come to some of the exciting things East Durham Creates have planned for this year.
A massive thank you to the staff, students and parents at The Academy at Shotton Hall for their generous donation to our food bank today. It is great to see our local community supporting one another. We are always looking for donations to support our ever growing demand for food parcels, so any donations will be greatly appreciated.
This weekend the Apollo Pavilion will be transformed into a mini-slice of Lumiere right here in Peterlee to celebrate it's 50th Year.

This afternoon at The Creative Place, we were filming for our County Durham Community Foundation 'No More Nowt Happens' project, a recent community project our East Durham Creates team worked on with young people.
We've got an exciting event coming up as part of No More Nowt Happens at the end of this month, watch this space for an invite and an opportunity to celebrate all the young people who were involved. The National Lottery Community Fund funded 'Art of the Matter' project will see cash strapped families having access to free arts activities and food.
Thanks to National Lottery players for making our project possible. On International Women's Day we would like to celebrate all the incredible women we have worked with.
Most recently through our Arts Council England project East Durham Creates we have been working with young people, in a project called 'No More Shy Bairns'. Young women were shown Vote 100: Born a Rebel which is about the northern Suffragette movement. This inspired them to create their own poetry through a workshop with spoken word artist Jess Green. From here the group got involved in our 'No More Nowt Happens' project and organised a spoken word night. And if that wasn't enough some of the brave young woman performed some of their poetry to a crowd of over 80 people. Our Cultural Hubs are back in action again this year. This time Horden Youth & Community Centre organised a brilliant interactive piece of Theatre 'It Is Now' by Anonymous Is A Woman Theatre Co with over 50 people coming to see the performance. It was set in 1966 at a wedding where the groom is more interested in the England football match (it is the world cup final after all) and the resulting drama.
It was great to see the local community supporting this event with Horden Hub House hosting a pre-theatre party where people got their hair and make-up done 60's style. Due to the success of this partnership they will become a steering group for Horden Youth & Community Centre to plan more creative events at the centre. Keep your eye out for the rest of our Cultural Hubs events that will be happening throughout the year. Some fantastic press coming out of our visit today, check out this article in the Northern Echo: here.
