New VisitWoods Outreach Officer

Visitwoods.org.uk is a comprehensive, interactive website showcasing virtually all publicly accessible woodland in the UK created by the Woodland Trust,   The VisitWoods website is a gateway to searchable maps, inspiring ideas, free downloadable resources, information and pictures provided by wood visitors and direct links to thousands of woodland websites.

The Woodland Trust has employed a VisitWoods Outreach Officer for East Durham. Chris Affleck will deliver the VisitWoods project at a grassroots level, supporting communities and working with specific target groups which include children and young people, people with disabilities and older people, to provide greater opportunities for them to visit their local woods.

Chris Affleck is keen to meet with partners in the East Durham area to  find out about existing projects and to promote the VisitWoods project. Chris said that “In my short time working for the Woodland Trust I have discovered that there are already so many great projects and services available in East Durham. I look forward to working with organisations like the East Durham Trust to enhance existing projects whilst supporting communities to access their local woods. You might be surprised at how close the nearest accessible woodland is to your doorstep and how much there is to do when you arrive”.
